Up Your Geek Quotient, Learn to Play Contract Bridge

Up Your Geek Quotient, Learn to Play Contract Bridge: Once solely the domain of old ladies, bridge is the hot hobby among big-brained geeks. Major league baseball coaches have private leagues. Google employees team up for after-hours games. Radiohead plays it on their tour bus. Bill Gates crushes all contenders. Want to give it a shot? Here’s how to get started.

The Worst Way To Travel For Man’s Best Friend

The Worst Way To Travel For Man’s Best Friend:

June 1936 Popular Mechanics - Dog Carrier (Image courtesy Modern Mechanix)
By Andrew Liszewski

Check out this fantastic do-it-yourself project from the June 1936 edition of Popular Mechanics. If you need to travel with your dog but hate getting all that pet fur in the back seat, why not just stick him in a crude canvas sack that’s hanging off one of the rear doors? I’m sure the animal will feel completely safe and comfortable, and as long as you remember to cut the “hole for head” the dog will also be able to enjoy the refreshing breeze while you’re cruising down the highway… Awful… Just Awful.

And let’s just hope that Mr. Responsible sitting in the driver’s seat there doesn’t forget about his loyal companion when he goes to open his door. Next month, how to turn your roof-mounted ski rack into a jungle gym on-the-go for your kids!

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day properly with a BeerTender

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day properly with a BeerTender:

By Luke Anderson

St. Patrick’s Day is coming up fast, and unless I’m mistaken, that’s one of the biggest drinking holidays here in the US. I’m not much of a drinker myself (too much Jack on my 21st I believe) so I don’t really pay much attention. If you’re one that loves to celebrate the holiday properly, why not set up a tap right on your kitchen counter?

The BeerTender is more than happy to accommodate to your drinking needs. Just toss in a 5-litre mini-keg and you’re all set. You can take this just about anywhere there’s a flat surface, so you can keep the celebration going in every room. You’ll need to cough up $299 for one, but just remember that the money is going towards a very special holiday celebration.
